Day 16 - Dubrovnik

My dear Croatian friends, your country and your people are wonderful! We had a superb afternoon in Dubrovnik, hosted by the most generous, trusting local.
He didn't speak much english, but some how he managed to take us around town to the best vantage points, took some great photos of us, gave us a bit of background (as best he could) and then took us to the Old City and escorted us into his favourite restaurant. The original agreement was that he would give us a 1 hour tour and drop us off in Old City for 50 Euro. When we got to the restaurant, he wouldn't take the money from us, he told us to go in and enjoy then look around the old city and he would meet us back at that spot in 2 hours to take us back to the ship! Who does that??? We couldn't believe it. He was so lovely.
The Taxi driver is very proud of this new bridge it takes 10 km off his trip now, and a  great vantage point looking back at our ship

Another great vantage point the Taxi driver took us too

The Old town port
≈The lunch we had was UN-BE-LIEVABLE! We got a meat platter and Seafood Platter (which the menu said for 2, but 10 people could have happily eaten) At home when you order these sorts of platters you get what the menu says - meat / seafood. In Croatia, you get meat, potatoes, Capsicum Salsa, Onion Salad, risotto, silver-beet & potato - OMG it was delicious! We've gotta go to the DOM when we get home!
What a feast

The view from the Restaurant

Old City was gorgeous, I love these walled cities, they're just so different to anything we have seen before. They actually still close the City (as in draw the bridges up) at 6pm every night! We bought a cute dress for Liv and I bought a great pair of shoes (Woo Hoo) and we actually carried the Carans, Eres & Maretics with us around all day. Would love to come back with you guys one day (ok the Leones and Camilleries can come too), we would have such a ball!

They still close these gates every night at 6.30 pm so you better get in behinds the walls before they do, or you're sleeping out side

Mary Jack she took the shoes off and loved the feel of the marble on her feet (I hope I don't come home from work and find her dancing to shuti on the kitchen bench tops)
Stunning place I would go back in a heart beat

Mary / Rose, the kids actually sang "Shuti...hey, hey, hey!" Rosa, I was dying to ask our taxi driver if he had a pair of yapanke and thought of you!
The Beautiful main street of the old town

The kids thought the sword was cool

They also liked the fish fountain
To many stairs for me to climb so I just took a picture of them

Back on the ship, we went and saw the final performance at the Royal Theatre. It was Walter Nicolaci - the one man show! He was a ventriloquist. He was actually very funny and the kids cacked themselves even though only 1/5 of it was in English! Can't wait for Achmed to come back to Australia because we have to go see him!

The kids cacked themselves they laughed that much

We've packed our bags and we have to be out of our room by 7:30am to disembark and get on a transfer bus to Genoa (change of plans, much cheaper option and Ben can relax and enjoy the view. Hopefully the Hotel Continental will have decent wi-fi and I'll go back and add photos.

X

Until then
Arriverderci
